Interesting facts about banglore, mysoore & toy train
Bangalore, Mysore and the Toy Train are three beloved landmarks of colorful India. Not only do they boast stunning vistas and interesting local cultures, each also has its own share of unique and fascinating facts.
Bangalore (or Bengaluru), the capital of Karnataka, is known as the Garden City of India due to its various green spaces and tree-lined streets. It is the third most populous Indian city, with an estimated population of over 8.5 million people. It is also a popular destination for visitors from around the world, with its bustling high-tech hub, numerous malls and vibrant nightlife. What many people may not know is that, as of 2012, Bangalore had nearly 200 lakes, many of which are subject to environmental protection regulations. Additionally, almost a third of the city population is estimated to use public transport, making it one of the most sustainable cities in India.
Mysore, in neighboring Karnataka state, is a city built on Hindu culture. Thought to be one of the oldest cities in India, it is affectionately nicknamed the City of Palaces due to its impressive buildings and structures - the Mysore Palace being the most well-known. It also carries strong spiritual significance, as the site of the famous Mysore Dasara festival. In addition to its many landmarks, Mysore is also responsible for producing some of the finest varieties of silk in the country.
Finally, the Toy Train, or Nilgiri Mountain Railway, is an impressive feat of engineering located in Southern Tamil Nadu. Connecting Mettupalayam and Udagamandalam, it is the only rack railway in India. Its system features three engines, including the unusual X Class tank engine. This miniature locomotive bounds up the rocky terrain of the Nilgiri Hills through several characteristic curves and loops. It is credited with giving the entire area its nickname, “The Blue Mountains”. Every year, this route is packed with tourists wanting to experience a piece of history.
These three places all make India a distinctly unique and beautiful country. From the bustling city of Bangalore, to the spiritual mecca of Mysore and the ancient journey of the Toy Train, exploring India must include at least one of these aspects to truly appreciate its beauty.
