At approximately 380kms from Delhi, the easy journey to Shimla can be accomplished in less than 6 hours. Although one can take up road to reach Shimla, the ‘Toy Train’ journey from Kalka can be an exotic voyage. The train passes through number of incredible tunnels and bridges before finally completing its 96kms run.
Manali beckons adventure, the constricted sheet of thrill swathes almost everything that exists here. A premier skiing destination of India, this splendid hill station is located approximately 39kms away from Kullu. The lavish green meadows, snow-clad mountains, gentle winds and quaint settlements mark the benign beauty of Manali.

Interesting facts about Chandigarh, Shimla, Manali
India, being a diverse and multi-cultural nation is home to countless beautiful cities and towns. Three cities which are particularly remarkable are Chandigarh, Shimla and Manali. Commonly referred to as ‘The City Beautiful’, Chandigarh is the first planned city after independence and is the capital of both Haryana and Punjab. It is located in the foothills of Shivaliks, making it home to a series of natural treasures such as the Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, and many other places of historical and cultural significance.
Built around the same time, Shimla is located around 345 km away from Chandigarh and is the erstwhile summer capital of British India. It is the capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh and provides a blessed refuge from the scorching heat of the Indian summer. Surrounded by lush green valleys and some of the tallest mountains of the Himalayas, Shimla is a popular tourist destination throughout the year.
Finally, Manali is a picturesque hill station located in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. It is renowned for its many tourist attractions such as the Beas River, various temples, gurudwaras, and several hidden treasures set amidst snow clad mountain peaks. It’s proximity to Rohtang Pass and various other resorts makes it a great destination for adventure lovers and thrill seekers.
To begin with, Delhi, located south-east of Chandigarh, is the nearest major city and is connected to Chandigarh with a distance of about 250km through the Nahan Highway. Another interesting fact about Chandigarh is its popular open hand monument which is the official symbol of the city and serves as an iconic landmark. Additionally, the city is also home to several educational institutions such as the Panjab University and 32 private universities.
As far as Shimla is concerned, it is home to the famous Kalka Shimla Railway Line which is included by the Guinness Book of World Records as an engineering marvel. This 96 km-long railway line is situated at an altitude of 7400 feet and is considered one of the the most beautiful train journeys in the world. Apart from that, Shimla is also known for having Asia’s largest mall, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, and the Christ Church, which is the oldest church in North India.
Coming to Manali, the Rohtang Pass is a popular tourist destination located at a height of 3979 m above sea level. It is often referred to as the ‘gateway to Lahaul and Spiti’ and provides breathtaking views of the adjoining mountain peaks.
